Haptic Drift
Haptic Drift is the third episode of the first season of The Peripheral and the third episode of the show overall. It aired on October 28, 2022.
Synopsis
Flynne and Wilf work together to find Aelita. Meanwhile, Burton takes steps to eliminate a new threat.
Plot
A flashback to Clanton, 2015 shows a biker gang as they arrive at Corbell Pickett's garage to purchase some vehicles. Corbell tells the men to get into the cars and test drive them and, when they do, he locks them in from the outside. They begin to panic, and Corbell explains to Jasper that they will more than likely die in shortly in the scorching heat.
Back in the present, Corbell considers the offer he recieved to assassinate Flynne and Burton. Corbell's wife suggets that they use Jasper to find out more about what they Fishers have gotten themselves into and why there is a large bounty out on their heads.
Meanwhile, Flynne smiles as she sees her mother reading the newspaper for the first time in a while, thanks to the medication from Milagros Coldrion. She meets up with Billy Ann Baker and tells her everything about her expeirences within the Peripheral. Burton's drones fly above them, and one of his friends stands by for protection.
At the print shop, Flynne questions Burton and his friends, who are using the printers to print weaponry and guns for protection. Burton tells Flynne that they bought the print shop with the money from Milagros Coldiron, much to Flynne's surprise. Conner arrives momentarily and agrees that he is ready to help Burton and the Fishers in their problems.
On their way home, Burton and Flynne talk about what they will tell people about their experiences within the Peripheral. Burton becomes quickly annoyed when Flynne explains that she told Billy Ann everything, citing that Billy Ann cannot keep anything a secret. Burton reminds her that Jasper's uncle is Corbell Pickett and they must keep him in the dark as much as possible.
In the future, Wilf and Lev discuss Wilf's past, and an event in which he was responsible for the death of some people. Lev tells Wilf that he shouldn't be ashamed of his past and instead, he should embrace it. During their conversartion, they wake Flynne's Peripheral, but the conversation is cut short when Flynne logs into the Peripheral; she questions if they keep her in a box when she isn't logged on and they laugh. Flynne tells Lev and the others what happened with Aelita. They reveal that Mariel Raphael was an assistant security manager at the Research Institute. They also tell her that Corbell Pickett has been recruited by the R.I to kill them.
